My Favorite Blueberry Smoothie Recipe

By Danielle

Smoothies are one of my favorite meals—they are quick to prepare, don’t require a recipe, and are an easy way to get a truck load of veggies into your belly! To learn how vegetables aid in detoxification, see my post on Eat (or Drink) Your Greens.

My husband makes what I call the “trash can smoothie”. He just throws a little bit of “this is getting wilty” and a little bit of “that’s about to expire” into the Vitamix. It doesn’t seem to matter to him what’s in it. He gulps it down in 30 seconds flat (so much for chewing to initiate peristalsis!).

I, on the other hand, DO care because I’m a picky little bitch when it comes to how my food tastes! I like to savor my food. I’m not one to just gulp it down and lay my empty glass beside the sink or on top of the EMPTY dishwasher when it takes less than 15 seconds to place it IN the dishwasher— I’m not naming names but certain adult people in my family do this on the regular and it drives me bonkers!

I digress. Anyway…If you’re not into the “trash can smoothie” I’m sharing my favorite smoothie recipe—along with some super easy links to buy some of the ingredients I use.

I use a Vitamix but you can use just about any blender.

  • 6oz unsweetened almond milk

  • 1 cup kale

  • 1 cup spinach

  • 1/2 cucumber with the skin on (fiber, fiber, fiber)

  • 1 small piece of ginger (anti-inflammatory, digestion)

  • 8oz frozen blueberries (antioxidants)

Blend that goodness up and use a stainless steel straw (I love the new Klean Kanteen SS straws!!) or silicone straw (because we are kind to the planet 🌎) and savor it while muttering to yourself about how a grown ass adult has two hands and can put his own dishes in the dishwasher. 😉
